PZ/Kosmopolis zomerworkshops op Feijenoord


After a successful series of events at Feijenoord, The Patching Zone / Kosmopolis organises workshops, on the one hand to answer research questions, on the other hand to play the games that have been created in the past couple of months by The Patching Zone.

For the Go-for-IT! project the team visited -on Thursday 18th of June- the roof of the Unilever building in Rotterdam, to look for opportunities to install hardware for the citygame.

The Patching Zone

The Patching Zone is a transdisciplinary lab for innovation where students from different backgrounds work together with professionals on meaningful creative media applications. The Patching Zone works closely with V2_ and builds on the knowledge and expertise gained in the V2_Lab; the research and development department of V2_ and the PhD research ‘Processpatching’, Defining New Methods in aRt&D by Anne Nigten. June 4: The Patching Zone / de Koepels workshop

The Patching Zone organizes a new workshop in co-operation with De Koepels that will result in a permanent installation at the Koepels. Together with participants a game will be built consisting of a LED screen and sensors. The participants will work in groups that occupy themselves with sensors, sounddesign, programming and the LED screen. The workshop will be at the workshop of The Patching Zone at the Oranjeboomstraat 97A in Rotterdam.

The first workshops of the Patching Zone's Go for IT!! have been a big success. Young people from Feijenoord learned how electronic music is produced and how to work with LED's. The most important message was: electronics are not complicated. A few small elements and a lot of creativity is all you need to make interesting and fun stuff. The people from Feijenoord are getting used to the Go for IT!! team, that uses the workshops as a basis for the big city game they are producing.

Go for IT, het project van The Patching Zone in Rotterdam Zuid, organiseert een aantal workshops voor jongeren vanaf 12 jaar. Samen met hardware-hacker Nic Collins laat het team zien dat werken met elektronica niet moeilijk hoeft te zijn.

The Patching Zone invites motivated students to participate in three projects, starting January 2010:
